Big Franklin longlisted for Dafoe Book Prize

Searching for Franklin has made the longlist for the J.W. Dafoe Book Prize.

Franklin longlisted for J.W. Dafoe Book Prize

This is the 40th anniversary for the prize, which goes to “the best book on Canada, Canadians, and/or Canada’s place in the world published in the previous calendar year.”

The Prize memorializes John Wesley Dafoe, one of the most significant Canadian editors of the 20th century. In his tenure at the Manitoba Free Press, later renamed the Winnipeg Free Press, from 1901- 1944, Dafoe was known for his advocacy of western development, free trade, national independence, and the Commonwealth.

Nice to see the Dafoe Foundation highlighting the various books and authors on their website.

Ken, I enjoyed very much your book on Franklin. Like many I have been caught up in The Mystery also! So much so that I wrote a song about it in 2011 called “Lost In A Frozen Sea.” For a time it was on Parks Canada’s web sight. Please check it out. I know you are also a musician and may like to hear it. Let me know what you think. Regards, Stephen Matthew’s Galiano Ialand
