The headline doesn’t do it justice. Full title: The Adventure-Canada, Searching-for-Franklin, Ocean-to-Ocean-to-Ocean, Book-Tour Extravaganza.
Yes, we’re launching my new book, going voyaging in the Northwest Passage, and offering YOU a chance to win a $5,000 voucher to come sailing with us.
Let’s break that down. My publisher, Douglas & McIntyre, has produced a splendiferous objet d’art in Searching for Franklin: New Answers to the Great Arctic Mystery. No, really. The book is gorgeous, from the dust jacket to the hardcover binding (a glorious red) to the maps and the overall design. On production values alone, this baby is a keeper, I’m telling you.
All of which inspired Adventure Canada, the award-winning travel company, to sponsor our extended book launch — and so to design a contest. Details will follow but today I can tell you that some lucky wayfarer will win a $5,000 voucher to be applied against the cost of one of AC’s Arctic voyages — perhaps the one Sheena and I will undertake early next fall: Into the Northwest Passage.
Did I mention the extended launch? By that I mean going beyond even the VIA-Rail extravaganza we undertook ten years ago (!!!) in support of 50 Canadians Who Changed the World. This time around, we propose to bring the new book to “our” three oceans — the Pacific, the Atlantic, and the Arctic. Once we have launched in Toronto (October 12), we head west (Oct. 18-Oct. 29) to do events in Calgary, Vancouver, Victoria, and Prince George. Next spring, we propose to ramble around Atlantic Canada looking for readers — and contestants. And then, early in the autumn, we make for the Arctic. In short, please stay tuned!
